No Man’s Land reunites composer and conductor Whitney George with stage director Attilio Rigotti for an original opera set in the Dust Bowl of 1930s Oklahoma.

The two-act work follows a young farm girl, sung by Kayla Rodriguez Perez, through a Faustian bargain made during the Great Depression in Oklahoma’s panhandle. George conducts The Curiosity Cabinet orchestral ensemble in a score that weaves popular and historic elements into a contemporary soundscape, with principal violinist Adam von Housen giving instrumental life to the Devil, sung by Shane Brown.

The production was supported by grants from NYSCA, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and OPERA America’s Opera Grants for Women Composers: Discovery Grants program, supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.
